We are emotion-driven people. Because no matter how strong our logic, emotions drive us. Eating junk is bad, we all know that then why do we keep on eating the same junk food? Because of the good feeling that junk food gives us. Because of its taste. If you observe, all the bad(I mean bad for health) stuff is extremely pleasurable. Tell me, Does exercise give you more pleasure than Netflix and potato chips. Never. But you know what is the right thing to do. Then what’s the solution?
Making the right things more pleasurable at the same time make the wrong things more difficult to start.
Here goes an example.
I have my PC in my bedroom. The same room is also my study room, my workspace my dining room. I do everything here. My monitor stays on a table, my keyboard and mouse stay on my bed in front of me. Yeah, I sit on my bed leaning against the wall, very relaxed and do my work.
Because of this, whenever I get a little tired or bored, I just tilt aside and lay down. As I have observed my productivity crashed. I know working on my projects is more important than dozing off. But every time I get a little off the course, pretty much every day (mostly afternoons post-lunch). What should I do to stop this?
The Solution:
I just got myself a chair. That’s it. When I work, I sit on a chair, now I feel like I don’t get tired at all. That soft bed made me doze off, not me. See just a simple change like this skyrocketed my productivity. Previously, I used to get tired of working for 2 hours. But now, I work almost 12 hours a day and doesn’t feel a thing. See 10 hours more. Not just that, Now I have finished my education so have more time for myself.
Now, you may ask, hey Sudesh do you even have a life?
Yes. I have a life. Every day at 5pm. I quit my work, and go out. Then at night, I watch movies, documentaries, Web series whatnot. I love my life, I love my work and you should too.
Simply put: Make your good habits more doable so that you can do more of them at the same time make your bad habits very difficult to do. That’s it.
